Sketchbook idea: Hairstyles first, faces second.

This is fun for everyone: kids, adults, those in between.  It also encourages the artist to appreciate and experiment with different kinds of hair.  And, hey, if your kids have the urge to cut hair, maybe this will satisfy?

1. Draw hairstyles on various pieces of paper.  Use magazines, catalogs, painted paper, old cards, newspaper.  Hairstyles can be traditional or wild.  Do your best to think about all of the different textures, colors, and lengths.

2. Cut them out.

3.  Glue a hairstyle onto your sketchbook page.

4.  Use a drawing pencil to finish the face.

5. Add  bits of color with watercolor paints or colored pencil. (optional)

6. Repeat.
